Summary (overview)

Schwingshandl implemented a high-performance intralogistics solution for production, palletising, depalletising, warehouse connection and dispatch for a leading producer of special paper.

The core of the system is an automated repalletising and depalletising system for the safe handling of over 100 different, heavy disposable pallets weighing up to three tonnes.

Initial situation & task

Schwingshandl implemented a complex intralogistics system for production, palletising, depalletising, pre-zone and dispatch for a leading producer of special paper. The paper industry uses numerous customer-specific disposable pallets with a very high tare weight of up to three tonnes.

These pallets vary greatly in terms of dimensions and design, are difficult to transport and store and place high demands on transport, handling and storage. The aim was to master this variety with process reliability and to efficiently combine the existing production with a new high-bay warehouse and a modern dispatch hall.

Realisation

The core of the solution is an automated repalletising and depalletising system, which is used to transfer a wide variety of disposable and customer pallets onto standardised in-house pallets and prepare them for storage and onward transport.
The pallets are detected, measured and analysed with regard to their foot space using special sensor technology. The repalletiser is equipped with individually electromechanically adjustable forks that enable safe handling of the widely varying pallet types. Due to the extreme loads, a special heavy-duty lifting gear was developed for this purpose.

Special conveyor technology with narrow roller pitch, multi-strand chain conveyors and special turntables and lifting tables are used to transport, rotate and manipulate the disposable pallets.
The link between production, the high-bay warehouse and the dispatch hall is provided by an extensive conveyor network including double lifters, vertical conveyors and forklift-accessible hinged belt conveyors, so that pallets can be transferred lengthways or crossways. Up to 150 customer pallets per hour can be loaded in the dispatch hall.
