Pallet inspection station

Initial situation & task

Schwingshandl realised a fully automated pallet inspection station for the quality control of heavy pallets for a beverage producer. Damaged pallets are often difficult to recognise with the naked eye, but can cause considerable consequential damage in automated processes. The aim was to reliably sort out faulty pallets at an early stage.

Realisation

The pallet testing station was integrated directly into the conveying process. In addition to checking the fork clearance, the top and running boards are tested using pneumatic tension and compression testing. In addition, an integrated nail roller ensures that protruding nails are completely pressed back into the wood.

Components used

  • Roller conveyor, roller lift table
  • Pallet inspection station with nailing roller, running and pressure board inspection, fork clearance check
  • Cladding and safety technology

Added value

  • Early detection of damaged pallets
  • Reduction of system downtimes and consequential damage
  • Increased process reliability in automated pallet handling
