Schwingshandl automation technology grows faster than the industry – turnover to double again by 2029

Growth in a dynamic industry
The intralogistics market is defying the recession and growing steadily. While the industry was estimated at USD 41.3 billion in 2022, experts expect growth of 8 to 10 percent annually until 2032. Schwingshandl operates in a specialized niche that is often too small and too complex for highly standardized general contractors. “In our niche, we deliver perfectly tailored solutions for every challenge – from development, project planning and production to installation and commissioning,” explains Thomas Schwingshandl, founder and CEO of Schwingshandl automation technology GmbH. “Our innovative strength and reliability, as well as the highest quality standards for our solutions and services, make us the preferred partner of the most successful international general contractors.”
Last year, IK Partners, a European private equity company, acquired a majority stake in Schwingshandl.
Record development and international expansion The intralogistics specialist from Holzhausen has more than doubled its turnover in the last four years and in 2024 generated over 45 million euros for the first time. For 2025, the hidden champion expects turnover of around 50 million euros – the target for 2029 is to double again to around 90 million euros. “We want to grow healthily and sustainably – at around 15 percent per year. Our continued internationalization is a key building block for this,” emphasizes Schwingshandl, adding: “We see great potential in the USA in particular and are therefore planning to establish our own subsidiary.” The USA already accounts for 20 percent of turnover, while 70 percent is generated in Europe – around 40 percent in the DACH region. “Our goal is to be the ‘niche world champion’: we want to become the global market leader in the niche of customized intralogistics solutions,” says Schwingshandl.

Schwingshandl currently employs around 120 people, with 30 new colleagues joining the company last year alone. The company has also been training apprentices since 2022 – currently five, with more starting their careers at Schwingshandl in 2025. “Our employees are the heart of the company – and that’s not just an empty phrase for us, it’s a reality,” emphasizes Thomas Schwingshandl. “We owe the significant increase in our order intake in recent years to our motivated and committed team.”

Investing in the future: new office building planned
Additional capacity is required for the planned growth. That’s why the expansion plans are already complete. A decision is to be made by summer 2025 as to when construction of a new office building and underground parking garage will begin. “We secured a plot of land early on and will continue to invest in the Holzhausen site in the future,” explains Schwingshandl. “Our focus is not only on growth, but also on sustainability.
