Loading and unloading portal for special load carriers and system trays

Initial situation and task

For the production supply of an automotive plant, various load carriers needed to be provided via an automated high-bay warehouse. To achieve this, the load carriers are first placed onto system trays, which are then automatically stored in the high-bay warehouse.

For supply to the production workstations, the required units are retrieved and transported to the assembly lines via tugger trains.

The key challenge was the high variety of load carriers: approximately 60 different types with varying dimensions and geometries had to be reliably transferred onto system trays. The objective was to develop a solution capable of handling this diversity with maximum flexibility while ensuring an efficient and cost-effective integration into the automated material flow.

Implementation

Schwingshandl implemented a customized solution for loading and unloading system trays.

Already during the concept phase, a dedicated solution for the loading portal was developed in close cooperation with the system partner. In addition to the conveyor technology, a special solution for handling the different load carriers was designed.

As part of the project, the complete conveyor system was realized – including solutions for system pallets, special pallets, and system trays. The developed portal enables safe and efficient transfer of the load carriers onto the tray structure of the automated warehouse.

Components used

  • Conveyor technology for system pallets
  • Conveyor technology for special pallets
  • Conveyor technology for system trays
  • Customized solution: loading and unloading portal for various load carriers

Customer benefits

The implemented solution provides a flexible and cost-efficient handling system for a high variety of load carriers.

Key benefits for the customer:

  • reliable handling of approximately 60 different load carriers
  • efficient loading and unloading of system trays
  • seamless integration into automated warehouse and production logistics
  • cost-effective implementation despite complex requirements

This created a central interface between the automated high-bay warehouse and production supply, ensuring a smooth and reliable material flow within the production process.
